Cabela's Six Annual Dutch Oven Cook-Off, Mitchell, South Dakota

Mitchell, SD – Saturday, August 20, 2011, Cabela’s hosted its’ 6th Annual Dutch Oven Cook Off.  Eleven adult teams and six youth teams attended despite early morning rains and created  fifteen main courses and fifteen desserts. 

The skies cleared by 10 am and our local and professional judges had a great time seeing all the unusual recipes cooked in Dutch ovens.  Hundreds of Cabela shoppers enjoyed these amazing Dutch oven dishes, and it was a lot of fun for everyone adding the Kid’s event this year.  Also new this year, Cabela’s had the public choose a “Friendliest Camp “ – taking home this great prize was Luinea Caldwell and Regina Geringer…Cabela's is known for hosting great events and offering wonderful prizes - as well as a good sale during their annual Fall Expo Weekend.
 
Cabela’s also sponsored the ‘main course secret meat and spice – this year, it was ‘something fowl’  that turned out to be chicken breasts!  Taking home the prizes were: 


MAIN COURSE: 

1st – Jason Gebhard and Dave Johnson of Mitchell, SD  - better known as the “Bacon Brothers” with their Jambalaya;
2nd – Lefty Olson of Papillion, Nebraska and 'Chuck' of Wisconsin’s Jack Daniels Fried Chicken
3rd – Wes Stigen of Iola, Wisconsin’s Enchilada Suisa
4th – Luinea Caldwell and Regina Geringer of Brandon, SD  - Chicken Marsala
5th – Clell Swanson of Canton, SD  - Crispy Chicken Nuggets and Taters

DESSERTS:

1st – Jim Johnsen of Wessington, SD – Old Fashion Peach Cobbler
2nd  - Adam Johnsen of Sioux Falls, SD – Black Forest Cake
3rd – Luinea Caldwell and Regina Geringer, Brandon, SD – Chocolate Turtle Cheese Cake
4th – Clell Swanson of Canton, SD – Pecan Pie Muffin Cake
5th – Lefty Olson of Papillion, Nebraska and 'Chuck' of Wisconsin’s Jalapeno Cheesecake with Raspberry Pepper Sauce.

KIDS DESSERTS:

1st – Jack – Caramel Apple Bread Pudding
2nd – Levi and Ethan – Apple Dump Cake

KIDS MAIN COURSE:

1st – Nathan and Matthew – Bacon Chicken Dumplings
2nd – Caleb and Ellie – Cheesy Hashbrown Bacon Egg Bake
3rd – CJ – Gravy Smothered Pork Chops
4th – Allison – Lamb and Veggies
